There was a time when the sex ratio in every step of education favored men with a large variation, but that trend is fading away slowly. These are offered to women who leave school for a temporary period due to some reasons and wish to return to end their education. Apart from that, most scholarships are for pursing higher studies, like where undergraduate girls have a brilliant past track record and wish to go for graduation and even professional or other skilled courses.

The subjects covered under most scholarships expect women to get a degree in science, technology and math which are generally not taken up by women around the globe. For instance, engineering and business is a field where women are reluctant to step into. Scholarships ensure women enter these areas and succeed in their careers. Also, many companies like IBM, Microsoft and Google offer scholarships to women to encourage them to study and also offer them suitable jobs after they clear their degree exams.
